Shoe Rack
For our final IDEA assignment we had to complete the following challenge: Reduce, Reuse or Recycle items to help reduce our impact on the environment. Every day we use items that are meant to be thrown away. Our challenge is to take these items (and any you can make in the lab) to create a project that will lessen the amount of these items going into our landfills.
On this project my partner was Benek Young. The first step to the creation of this shoe rack was brainstorming. Benek came up with the idea because he like to collect shoes and needs a spot to put them. Then we opened up Inventor and drew out an idea for it.
Next I went and got cardboard and we figured out all of the dimensions for the project. Then I went to the woods lab and cut out all of the pieces.
After that I then created a file on Adobe Illustrator to cut out the insert spots on the sides for the shelves. Then I took it to the laser cutter and all four out.
After I cut them out I assembled the shelves which holds it together. The whole thing is 31.75x28x10.5 inches. The shelves are 28x5 and there id two to make up one shelf. Then I created the vinyl numbers on Adobe Illustrator and cut them out on the vinyl cutter. Then I applied them to the shelves.
On this project I gained a lot of knowledge on the tools in the Innovation Center and how to make a stable shoe rack. I learned even more about how to work the program Adobe Illustrator. On the program I learned how to created the sides by using lines. On this project I did everything except for come up with the idea. While I did the project my partner worked on other things or talked to another friend. If I had to do this again I would pick a new partner and start the project sooner. I am overall happy about what I did and learned on this project.
